This ‘Give way to oncoming traffic’ sign is designed to be used where the road narrows and traffic coming from each direction needs to be informed on who has right of way. This sign will always be paired with a ‘Priority over oncoming vehicles’ sign. For temporary applications this may be because of road works on the side of the road which narrows the carriageway.
